edv16picwithmonksEric d Vries, that’s me… professional photographer, instructor… I have held a camera in my hands for as long I can remember. I have worked as a professional photographer for 25 years after starting as an assistant-photographer during a 2-year study at FotoVakSchool in The Netherlands. I have photographed for a long list of corporations and product manufacturers while working in a photo studio but also did press photography for a couple of newspapers and magazines back in the 90s. For the past seven years I have been instructing photo tours and workshops in Cambodia for my own business Photo Cambodia and also for a number of exclusive travel companies.
My mission is to show you the best spots and locations in Angkor and Cambodia during your photo tour and workshop, by sharing my experience and my knowledge of photography to help you understand your equipment and archieve your goals, and to take you on incredible photo tours and workshops that will inspire you for the rest of your life.
Home base in Cambodia for the last 10 years (after visiting the beautiful country for the first time in April 2000) I live with my wife and three kids in Siem Reap, close the temples of Angkor…

What the people say…

“Fantastic Learning Experience”
Eric is the man! Very easy to get on with, great fun, incredibly knowledgable and a great teacher, even for those very new to the game and easily frustrated. The whole day was incredibly well planned, his driver picked us up at 5am from our hotel and made our way, he took us to good local stops for food and refreshments and got is everywhere avoiding the crowds for some spectacular photos!
He was also kind enough to give us details of everywhere we had been, as well as details of things we talked about during the day. We will definitely use Eric again, best there is, a great guide and a fantastic photographer. (Visited June 2016)

In May we did two photo tours with Eric d Vries. One countryside tour in Siem Reap and a day in Phnom Penh. These two days made our vacation in Cambodia a really special trip. Of course we were overwhelmed and amazed by the temples of Angkor, but our countryside tour showed us the real live around Siem Reap. Eric took us to small towns, markets, pagoda’s and a floating village (a real one, not the tourist version). And he treated us on a very good lunch.
In Phnom Penh Eric took us to very special spots. Just do the tour and you will see.
Last but not least. Eric is a great photographer and teacher. Even if you just bought a camera he will be able to help you to get a grip on using your camera and get the best out of it. Also if you are an advanced photographer Eric will help you become a better one.
We had two very special days. I would recommend Eric to anyone wanting to see a different side of Cambodia, even if photography is not the main goals looking more intensely at the world around you will make you journey extra special.
Very highly recommended! Visited May … (Maarten and Petra)

I have just undertaken a photograph workshop with Eric de Vries in Angkor Archaeological Park and found him to be extremely patient, highly proficient and a thoroughly engaging tutor. He made the technical process easy to understand and was so helpful in explaining light and depth of field which straight away helped me to produce better quality pictures… (Paul and Sheila)

…Eric is a professional photographer that lives in Siem Reap and served as my guide this past Saturday.  It was actually a combination tour and photo workshop.  He is one of the very best guides I have ever worked with and was an excellent teacher.  He actually made photographing temples fun for me, as I usually just photograph people.  As you know, the needs of a photographer are very different from the typical touring person, even someone well traveled. Eric looked at my web site, understood my likes and put me in places where there was the potential for interesting images.  When he saw I was stuck or missed a good opportunity he would advise me. As a photographer, he understands light and how the light will fall at different times of the day.  Though other guides are adequate, having someone like Eric can make your programs something special… (Louis)

Hi Eric, thank you so for taking us on the countryside adventure. I won’t be able to download my photos until I get back to Doha, but from the shots I’ve viewed on the camera screen, they look great. I appreciate all of the hints and pointers too. Take care, Natalie…

Thanks very much for the tour today and kind guidance in pointing me the right direction. Please do send our thanks to your wife for the excellent lunch… Joel

I left Cambodia with memories of a lifetime.  Thank you for your instruction, your professionalism and your patience throughout the photo tour. I’ll definitely contact you next time I’m in town.…I really enjoyed Cambodia…, E.S.

Just wanted to say thanks for last week, I got some really great images. If I’m back in Cambodia next year, I will be sure to let you know, Malcolm

Thanks again for helping to make my trip to Siem Reap all the more memorable!
Kind regards, Linda

Eric, I’ve been swamped since coming back and have had no time to edit all my shots or make the CD I plan to send you.  You helped me make some really good shots and your advice has helped in shots I’ve taken since.  Thanks for staying in my mind as my teacher…

I enjoyed the tour immensely and the exercises we practiced are already being implemented. I visited your exhibition at the Victoria, and also went to the countryside today including the lake and floating village. Siem Reap has had a great impact  on my photography, and I hope to return soon…

…Hi Eric, Thanks so much for your quick feedback and your encouraging words. All credit to you of course! I think it’s a big improvement over my previous stuff…
Regards. Tommy (Hong Kong)

…Dear Eric, I hope you’re well? Thank you so much for your time a few weeks back when you kindly escorted me around Siem Reap. I really enjoyed our photoshoot…
Very best wishes, Michael (UK)

…Just wanted to say how much Julie and I enjoyed our two days photography with you. We have 2 more days in Bangkok and then we are back to the cold of the UK ! Have started to look at some of the images we took and very pleased. If we wanted to come back in a year or two, would it be best to come in September/October after the rains ? I assume you would be happy to put up with us again for a few days !
Best wishes, Alan

…the two men you refer to were my clients and I spoke with them earlier this week about their trip.  They loved the time they spent with you and both came away with some great photos and both said they learnt a lot in the time they spent with you.  Thank you so much for looking after them so well.  I am glad you enjoyed the time too!
